I have little time for gossip, but no matter where I go I seem to bump into someone who is eager to dish out the dirt on some unsuspecting member of society. Earlier today an acquaintance stopped me on the street, and asked if I’d heard the latest scandal. I made it clear that I wasn’t really interested, but to no avail. The person in question cornered me, so to speak, then proceeded to give me all the intricate details concerning a neighbourhood dispute. By the time this acquaintance had finished I felt totally exhausted.
Ah, well, I thought, as I made my way back home for a much needed cup of coffee, I might be able to use some of that as back-story or as a secondary plot in one of my stories.
Although I don’t tend to gossip myself, listening to other people’s chitchat can provide ideas, or could even provide everything one needs, for an interesting story. Keep your ears open and your mouth shut, and you never know what you might stumble upon.
On a different note; we’ve had a smashing autumn so far this year which has provided some stunning night skies. I took the photo below from the front room of my house with my trusty camera phone.
